An infographic on how to find work with a professional profile on LinkedIn has been created to help prospective employers decide whether or not to hire you.
The infographic shows the information employers need to know about each candidate, including their name, job title, location, experience, qualifications and professional profile.
“If you’ve been in Canada for less than three months and your resume is incomplete, or if you’ve never worked in the country, you can apply for a work visa at any Canadian consulate or border post, as long as you meet the other criteria,” reads a press release from the University of Toronto’s Media Lab.
The report notes that many employers may also look for a photo with a Canadian national stamp, a photograph of a Canadian flag or a photograph with a Canada flag.
“For a candidate to be considered for a visa, the information that employers need is contained in the application, but it’s also very important that the applicant does not appear to be a person who has had any contact with the applicant’s parents or a person with a criminal record,” said co-author Dr. Andrew Loughrey.
“It’s very important to have a photo of your parents, you know, or even your grandparents,” he said.
While it’s unclear how employers can find information about candidates that’s not part of the application process, Loughreys and co-authors note that employers can request a photograph that shows someone who is not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
The project was started by University of Ottawa researchers and is being released this week to coincide with International Human Rights Day, which commemorates the historic Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
