The company is hoping to bring back its search engine from a six-year absence with the launch of Google Maps, its latest foray into the digital landscape.
Its search engine will also be available in mobile apps for smartphones and tablets.
Google is planning to launch a standalone mobile app, Google Maps for iOS and Android, on Thursday.
It is the first time the company has made such an announcement.
Its business is driven by digital advertising, which relies on the ubiquity of digital adverts, and it has been struggling to find a suitable partner for the business in the past.
Google is targeting consumers with the first-ever Google Maps in the US, which was launched in March last year and had only recently been rolled out.
“We’re excited to bring this to consumers in the United States, and we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for a global search engine in 2018,” said Google’s chairman Eric Schmidt in a statement.
“This is a critical year for Google’s growth, and this is a step forward in bringing the Google Maps experience to our customers around the world.”
“We believe the new Google is going to be a transformative experience for people around the globe,” he added.
The launch of the Google maps app will come just weeks after the company also launched its search app in Australia.
Google launched the Australian version of the app in March.
The Google Maps app will be available to users of the Apple iPhone and iPad, and will be a free download.
Google has also announced that its mobile advertising unit, DoubleClick, will be joining Google in an “unprecedented partnership” with the search giant.
The Google mobile ad unit will help Google to target its ad sales across a wide range of platforms, from mobile phones to smart TVs and the Internet of Things.
DoubleClick is the digital advertising unit of Alphabet Inc, the Google parent company.
Google is investing $1.6bn in the mobile ad business to launch the Google app in 2018, said Schmidt.
“The mobile ad market is growing and growing fast, and our ad partners have an opportunity to become even more important to us,” he said.
Google will also launch a YouTube channel on the Google Play Store and Google+, which it will call Google Video.
“We will also continue to build the Google Search App to offer users a new way to discover content on the Internet,” Schmidt said.
The Google search app has been on Google Play for more than two years and has been downloaded more than 2 billion times.
